The Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) conducted in the beautiful city of Kobe, Japan, at one of
their most prestigious University, “Kobe University” the world first course on the topic of disaster mitigation “Mitigation Strategy for Mega-Urban cities Earthquake Disaster” where the
techniques and new tendencies on the topic of disaster mitigation within the context of risk management that are now been
implemented in countries like Japan, United States, England, was discussed at length. At this course Panama was represented by Paramedic, Patricio Jordan, of the “Caja de Seguro Social”. At the end of the course an international organization was form in order to conduct and follow up mitigation
projects in each country. The year after a link was made between Patricio Jordan and Manuel Calderon, both paramedics,
whom has been involved in the risk management field for quite some time. Moved
by the great suffering of the community, because of natural disaster that strikes the region. P.D.M.I. Panama Disaster Mitigation
Initiative, was founded.

Objective:
P.D.M.I. Primary objective is to
plan and execute disaster mitigation projects that will prepare the community to confront future disasters. Focusing on the areas where traditionally there is poor governmental
involvement, such as education, investigation, prevention, rehabilitation after the disaster. And to establish long term relationships with our sponsors and collaborators, in order to facilitate the help that they may want to deliver to the areas affected soon
after a disaster has struck.
Mission:
P.D.M.I. mission is to elaborate and execute disaster mitigation projects that will result in the better
preparation of the community to confront future disasters.
